Universal prekindergarten
Head Start partners with the Agency of Education (AOE) and the Agency of Human Services to offer Universal PreKindergarten (UPK), 10 hours a week.
UPK is publicly funded early education during the school year to all Vermont children age 3 or 4. For children enrolled in Head Start and other child care programs, UPK helps extend services from part-day to full-day.
If you are a parent interested in learning more about UPK services, please visit State of Vermont Agency of Education or call your local Head Start. All Vermont Head Start programs offer UPK services to families in addition to Head Start services.
Data on developmental outcomes
In 2019, AOE and VHSA established an agreement for all Vermont Head Start programs to report child enrollment and other child data to the State Longitudinal Data System (SLDS).
This database tracks developmental outcomes for children from prekindergarten through grade 12. To learn more visit the Statewide Longitudinal Data System or contact your local Head Start.
